Rigging Tips and Tricks
Our flies are effective no matter how you rig and fish them; but here are a few pointers on how to get the most out of them:
- We recommend utilizing a loop knot for our Amphipods. This maximizes the tail action and is easier than a regular knot to tie on an Amphipod without tangling feathers in the eyelet.
- We recommend using 1-2 lb monofilament or fluorocarbon line when fishing our flies for maximum action and drop speed. 3 lb is the maximum we would recommend using.
- Where it is legal to do so, you can tie on a fly with a loop knot and attach a heavier jig a few inches below. You could also use a sinker at the bottom, if it's illegal to use two baits on one line in your area. This is a great way to get a tiny fly down to deep water fast, and greatly increases your chances at fish.
- Our flies, especially our #14 models, make for great spoon droppers. Remove the treble from your favorite spoon, and use approx. 2 inches of mono or fluorocarbon to attach the spoon to fly.
